The department of chemistry is an integral part of Karimganj College. It is in operation right since 1947 just a year from the establishment of the institution in 1946. The department forms a prime pillar of this college and is catering for students of various capabilities. Though mainly teaching oriented being an UG department, faculty members are also involved in research work. The department was benefited through DST, UGC grant and has been benefited by receiving financial assistance from Star college Project funded by DBT during the period 2011 to 2014.

The objective of the department is to encourage students for general education in basic sciences by arranging week long hands on training course on some specialized topics included in their UG Course in HRDC, Universities etc., and also by arranging workshop, seminar, industrial tour etc. Faculty members are very much involved in research work and try to grow the research interest in students’ mind by providing guidance to do the course related project work on current research area. The department also encourage students to present their project work in seminars and publish their papers in peer reviewed journals.
